About Bales Law PLLC

Bales Law offers clients the benefit of years of “Big Law” experience with the personal focus and flexibility of a boutique law firm. Having practiced at premier national firms including Jones Day, Sidley Austin, and Foley & Lardner, founding attorney Melina Bales has spent years advising private and public companies through high-stakes commercial litigation, liability management strategies (including restructurings and out-of-court workouts), and a general corporate counsel services. At Jones Day, she was on the restructuring team advising Johnson & Johnson’s subsidiaries through an unprecedented potential restructuring of their mass tort liabilities.  At Sidley, she served as lead associate on the trial team defending the validity of a lender’s strict foreclosure on company interests in a cross-jurisdictional, multi-million-dollar dispute. The team prevailed in an expedited proceeding before the Delaware Court of Chancery and on appeal. Her experience at Sidley consisted exclusively of complex commercial litigation, primarily representing private equity firms and their portfolio companies. At Foley, Mrs. Bales represented several companies through chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings and advised lenders through Article 9 foreclosures and public auctions of commercial real estate holdings.

Melina Bales graduated from Baylor Law School and obtained a B.A. from The University of Texas - Austin.  Baylor Law’s Trial Advocacy program ranks third in the nation and has consistently ranked in the top 5 for Trial Advocacy nationwide since 2010.  Melina now serves as an adjunct professor at Baylor Law School.
